The Jemez Mountains
A lush green layer of grass coats the forest floor.
It looks like everything is in order for a beautiful summer.
But dust fills the dry air as we drive down the forest road.
This is too much dust for late spring.
Where is the mud? Where is the rain?
It's Memorial Day weekend and that almost guarantees rain.
We last visited these woods when winter snow was over a foot deep.
Now that snow has melted and in it's place flowers bloom.
They wait for a fresh rain, sucking the last moisture out of the soil.
They wait.
